Softball Overview

Ages 5-14

Welcome to Girls' Softball! The H.V.A.A. Softball Program focuses on fundamental skill development, creating lasting friendships, sportsmanship based fun, and preparing players for a future in Softball. We offer four divisions of play determined by age and skill level. All effort is made to place players in the most appropriate division for a successful season. The season length and games (dates shown in table below are approximate only) will be finalized once the number of teams for each division is determined. Spring season softball ages are determined by the age your child is as of January 1st of the registration year.

H.V.A.A. subscribes to the A.S.A. or Amateur Softball Association of America rules of play, and participates through the Hudson Mohawk A.S.A. District 7 Traveling League. This program is to create an interest in softball within the communities of H.V.A.A. and the Hoosic Valley School District, and provide a consistent structure and foundational development of girls through the program in order to prepare them for scholastic Softball at the Hoosic Valley School District. This program has been and will continue to be developed with involvment from those coaches at the Modified, Junior Varsity and Varsity levels in conjunction with volunteers from the H.V.A.A. coaching ranks. Our intent is educate them on rules of play, strategy, sportsmanship and most importantly, love of the game. As with class sizes at HVCSD, the levels of enrollment for any age group can change from year to year. In the event that there are not enough girls at a given level, H.V.A.A. coaches in cooperation with the Softball Chair, may elect to play against neighboring community organizations such as Brunswick, Greenwich, Hoosick Falls, etc. Athletic Associations, at their or our facilities, to enrich the competition and reinforce their skills progression.

The H.V.A.A. Opening Day Parade and Opening Ceremony kick-off the season. Players and parents should expect a minimum of one (1) practice and one (1) game per week for the duration of the season.

For all divisions, practice fields are typically at Chapko-Lewis or occasionally at Hoosic Valley Central Schools behind the Elementary school. Because of the limited number of fields, the various divisions will play on alternating days during the week, or scheduled throughout the day on weekends. Typically, weekend games are scheduled in the morning.

Various clinics are held within H.V.A.A. in cooperation with the Hoosic Valley Central Schools Girls Softball Program. H.V.A.A. is also an active participant in ASA softball, and a member of the Hudson-Mohawk ASA District 7 organization, which offers various clinics throughout the capital region. Specific skill oriented practice clinics may be offered throughout the year and may require additional fees. Please check with the clinic organizer or H.V.A.A. Softball Chair for additional information.

The Softball Program is seeking dedicated parent and community volunteers interested in supporting the progression of girls’ softball in Hoosic Valley. Prospective coaches should be eager to develop player skills, team unity, sportsmanlike attitude, and a love of the game in all players. Our coaches typically find the experience very enjoyable and rewarding and many return to coach again. When selected to coach, if you have a child participating in the Association in that sport, that child will be the first player laced on your team. A pre-season coaching clinic will be held for both new and returning coaches and all coaches will be required to attend a H.V.A.A. coaching clinic. If you are interested in applying as a head or assistant coach, please indicate when you register your child, or, you can contact the H.V.A.A. Chair for that sport, listed in the Officer Contacts section of the website.
